Both Outlook and Thunderbird are choking on my windows desktop with whatever gmail account I'm trying to use at the time. I have been bumping into all the same and others are too. If Microsoft rejects them, there's nothing Google can do but report the error. Gmail can only use the settings and credentials you provide. You wouldn't believe what Microsoft suggest □ They should know all the proper settings that need to be configured to make it work with their own e-mail. Then you'll need to contact Microsoft for additional help. Gmail quite happily accepts the password as well as the incoming server settings it is only the outgoing server settings that fail. Getting past the password sign-in was never an issue anyway. The only one that works is the original for the account. When signing in on Gmail, the generated app password does not work and it just reacts as if you've but in the wrong password. Thank you for your help but this doesn't seem to be the problem. So generate an ASP in your Outlook/Yahoo account, and use that instead of the normal password when configuring them in Gmail. Microsoft, which means Outlook, Hotmail and Yahoo (which includes AOL), has changed to using an Application Specific Password for outside access (POP3, IMAP, SMTP). It is only via the Gmail app on my mobile device that I am now having problems sending and I too did not change any settingsįYI receiving email works it's just sending that's not working ![]() Same problem, I definitely not a Microsoft problem as my mail sends and receives perfectly via the website, or via the outlook app or on my PC. It would be great if a moderator from Google would give some advice as this seems to be a new issue and there is no information out there on how to sort it. Contacting Microsoft is no help because, as far as they are concerned, everything is working on their end and they just suggest using the outlook app. You'll need to contact Microsoft to very the exact settings to use and find out what, if anything, changed. ![]() Now I can't add it back because once again when I get to the outgoing smtp authentication, it fails. I didn't play with these settings in any way. I'm thinking it has to be something on the Gmail side. This has worked fine for years with no issue. My login credentials work just fine from a PC, so I know that isn't the issue. (See attached snapshot for error message.) Perhaps that will give you more details as to why it can't connect. I'd suggest removing the account from Outlook and setting it up again. ![]() Why is this happening? I do remember that there was a Google Android system update yesterday which I did install.Ĭommunity content may not be verified or up-to-date. Checking the account status in Settings shows that it's no longer able to authenticate. Since yesterday, I noticed that all my outgoing Outlook email was being held in the outbox. Outgoing smtp for Outlook no longer authenticates
